What is FAFSA? The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (known as the FAFSA) is a form that can be prepared annually by current and prospective college students (undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid (including the Pell grants, and work-study programs).

The FAFSA may help you qualify for federal grants and work-study programs as well as federal loans. The first step is filling out your FAFSA application form. You need to determine where you want to go because you will be asked to fill out an application form and enter the code of your chosen school or college. Once your FAFSA application form is processed, your documents will go straight to the school for them to directly receive the funding that will be granted to you. Since funding is on a first come, first serve basis, be sure to file your FAFSA the second you are eligible. By doing that you will increase your odds of getting federal aid and you may actually receive more financial assistance.

How to Apply for FAFSA? The FAFSA form can be a pain to fill out for most students because of all the documentation needed to complete it.  You shouldn't sit down at the computer to fill out the FAFSA until you have all of the required documentation in front of you.

Documents required before applying for FAFSA.
